Cahoot credit card removes Payment Protection Insurance, does Section 75 remain in place?

I must be one of the dwindling number of Cahoot credit card users. They stopped new business years ago, but I've always had good service from them and still use my Cahoot credit card. They've announced that they will shortly be stopping the Payment Protection Insurance that covers purchases made with the card.
I'm assuming that they still have to provide the legal Section 75 cover?

Payment protection insurance is usually if you can't afford your payments due to loss of job etc and will cover your repayments for a certain period.
You would still have both chargeback & S75 cover on purchases,

Or is it the kind of protection some cards used to do re purchases - eg you drop your vase on the way home from the shop and if you paid by credit card they will cover the cost?

We will have to wait for the OP to come back and explain further.

  • I'm also a Cahoot customer (of 20+ years). This is not just for credit cards (I only have a debit card). This is for any Cahoot card.

"The email is regarding Purchase Protection Insurance (PPI) for cahoot Banking and Credit Card customers provides cover for items purchased with a cahoot Credit or Debit card. Items purchased must have cost the customer £50 or more.

This insurance is provided at no cost to our customers.

The cover is provided for 90 days from the purchase date and covers:

    Loss

    Theft

    Accidental damage".

Is this not something you get as standard with other credit or debit cards? Or is that just for items you've paid for which you don't receive or are faulty (which I'm assuming from this reply we still get)? Is this what S75 cover means?

No. Very few cards offer that kind of insurance.

Section 75 is something different and remains for all cards.
  • Section 75 is a legal requirement of a credit card - cannot be removed even if Cahoot remove any additional product they previously offered
