No more Samsungs for me? S6 needs a battery and running slow.

Had Samsungs for years now, S2, S4, S6. Had the S6 since 2016 when on a large discount end of line clearout.
Maybe time for a replacement but there is no way I will be paying current S series prices, time to look elsewhere?

Shop suggested the A50/70 which I googled and they have been replaced with the 51/71 now or soon to be. But they
do not offer the same specs as the S6. No wireless charging for a start, screen not quite as good. That is my biggest like
about the phone. No messing with battery cables. Converted the old S4 to wireless charging so already had the pads.

Any suggestions?  Thanks.

The problem with older android phones is that the manufacturers stop updating  the android version and applying security patches one the phones start to get over 4 years old. Samsung are better than most in this respect. So if you use your mobile for security critical apps such as banking, shopping and even emailing you should try and get the most up todate  phone that you can.

A90 screen res lower than mine 1080x2400 compared to the S6 1440x2560.
    6.7" screen its almost a tablet  :)

    No wireless charging.   :(

Most of the other specs look good though.

Maybe a refurbished S9 if nothing else fits the bill?  But are these direct from Samsung with
a new battery or just one thats had a factory reset with a battery thats already had a year or
    two of use?

Thanks.   (Stupid prices for new phones)

You try setting the screen res of you current phone down to see if you can live with a lower setting.

Xiaomi Mi9 and the A90 5G seem very similar in a lot of the specs. Bigger screen on the A90
Wireless charging on the Mi9.  Been reading reviews on that phone and its a mixed bag.
    Marmite phone?

Cannot reset the screen res on my phone without rooting, cannot root due to banking apps.

So many choices.  And far too many how much.... 2 of those and i can buy a decent car.

    Thanks.

stick with what you have and save loads of money. i take it that it still makes calls etc.

Yes it still makes calls but its dropping charge fairly quickly.  Take it off charge quick scan of my emails
and a quick look at the BBC news app. by the time I have eaten breakfast and its 84% already. Don't
open the phone and its down to 50/60% in 8 / 9 hours with zero calls or use other than whats running in the
    system.

And its not full of useless game apps either. Played a game once and it ate the battery so that
    got deleted long ago.

if i could get a GENUINE Samsung battery I would replace it.  Several I have seen have old stock stuff
or fake stuff. Not going to unglue the screens to fit something that may swell and cause other damage.

S6 still worth a few £ it seems.

    A90 5G or A71  ??  Think its down to those 2.

Just installed AccuBattery. (estimates) Screen on 4h 0m,  Screen off 20h 0m,  Combined 17h 0m.

It should collect data over the next few days and probably eat more battery life, but worth the test,
dropped 4% just installing that app from a full charge.

Charged slowly using wireless for most of the phones life, fast charge disabled from my first setup to help
the battery last longer. 4 years seems fairly good i think.

Just that the equivalent phone is now 3x - 4x more expensive.  Why not just move the phones down the range
as they age? S6 becomes the A6 then the J6 and tech progresses, save having to keep designing phones
that are virtually identical anyway.  Comparing the A90 to the A71. Very similar. With positives and negatives
    for both.

So between the A90 and the A71 can anyone see anything that stands out to push me towards that one?
A71 has 1080@960fps, A90 is just 720. That appeals.. But not all spec sheets mention that feature?

    Thanks  :)
