Somebody doesn't really understand the meaning of "anachronistic" do they ??
I "understand" that the Radio Times is just one of many  outdated media still available at the moment for some reason.
Years ago it sold in millions because there was no viable alternative.

Nowadays it barely survives and ultimately is certainly doomed.

This is a pretty pointless discussion, isn't it?

Whether you happen to like it or not is irrelevant -  it still sells well over half a million copies a week, and is the best selling weekly magazine in the UK with a circulation well over half a million, selling to a pretty upmarket, affluent, ABC1 readership.  Print copies of all publications have fallen - look at newspapers.

The half million plus who buy it clearly like it.  If you don't, don't buy it.

I was clearly responding to the post about the magazine being  anachronistic.
This is a moneysaving forum, so it makes sense to point out that this magazine is not an essential purchase in the first place, but also that those who do still enjoy  it should avail themselves of the subscription route to save money and should haggle about the price where appropriate.

This periodical is  now simply a  throwback to a time when it enjoyed a complete monopoly on BBC listings.

90% of the magazine is simply TV schedules available completely free from even the most basic EPG.

The "well written" articles are hardly essential and many can be read online in any case.

The circulation falls year-on-year and the reader demographic, though ABC1,  is predominantly  in the over 55 age group.

As to newspapers, their coverage and influence is being eroded too (though at a less rapid rate)

There are (were?) several people involved in this "pointless" discussion, if you don't like it then don't respond. :p

Well, we're all entitled to our own views, aren't we ? Those , like me, who know that RT is much much more than TV listings, will continue to be one of the million people who buy a copy every week, and indeed view the online site that attracts 3 million viewers each week. Those who don't like RT can just ignore it.  Simple really.

As already revealed pages back in this thread, this magazine sells around 600,000 issues (and falling)  a week which is far far less than the million you assert and not even in the same ballpark as the 8 million circulation it enjoyed in the 1950s.

Talking of which.......................the audit bureau of circulations, the definitive statistical database says that RT sold 529,263 copies in the period July-Dec 2019

Yes, we really must get our statistics right , mustn't we ? And surely there is no quibbling about the 3 million followers of RT site online which also supports the degree of immense interest in this wonderful magazine  :)

Your figure vastly  inflated the circulation, mine wasn't that far out....

Of course, the most recent report is  even less than the figure I took from earlier in the thread.
Four months on, I wonder how much more it's fallen given the current crisis?

I think you misunderstand that the definitive figures I provided via the link listed half a million for the last SIX months of 2019. And half a million PLUS another half a million for the other half of the year = 1 million.
And I wonder how much the figure has risen since the virus crisis as everybody watches TV during their internment ??
I'll just take your mail as an apology for muddling up your figures and I'll say no more. Thank you for your contribution.

They may  be watching more TV, but they aren't going out to buy newspapers and magazines I'm afraid
The figures for both will doubtless  plummet.
Let's leave it there, shall we?
The poster who started this thread was complaining about a subscription issue which has long since been solved...
