Re-connecting phone line disconnected by Virgin

Hello
May seem like a stupid question. Virgin Supplies my Broadband and Telephone line. Before I joined them I had a BT line, which was used by Talk Talk. Virgin installed a new line, and new socket in our lounge, The BT socket is still there, as is the line outside running down the wall. The Virgin "phone line" is a seperate cable. If I wish to leave Virgin, everyone else uses a "BT line" and they say they will have to charge me around £50 to re-connect. Do I have any redress with Virgin for disconnecting a perfectly useable line, and putting in a completely "seperate"  line to my house

Two separate cables running to your property .
One VM ( vm use only )
One BT OpenReach ( multiple isps )
By reconnect they probably mean reconnect at the exchange/ box /As line still exists .
VM would not have touched your BT line .
VM separate line is for VM services they cannot use BT OR line .

As stated above, VM would not have touched your BT line.  Talk Talk will have had Openreach cease it when you left or it would have happened if you transferred the number away, because without a line rental contract in place the line can be disconnected (this can be physical at the cabinet and / or exchange, or electrionic).

Had you wanted to keep it connected you would have had to continue to pay line rental to Talk Talk (or another provider over the BT network).  That would have saved you the reconnection fee, albeit at an ongoing monthly line rental cost to TalkTalk / other provider of something like £10-20.

Would you have preferred that?  It would have cost you substantially more.
