Of course am able to change the direct debit date, otherwise they wouldn't allow it. The direct debit guarantee states that i am able to change it. It also states that any changes to the payment frequency and amount needs to be instructed to me prior to the payment being taken.
The DD guarantee absolutely does *not* say you can change the payment date when you like, otherwise each month you could push the payment date back 28 days - meaning your monthly payment became a near-bimonthly payment. Does that sound like something that companies would agree to? Does that sound fair? Once you have agreed a payment date as part of a contract, it is your responsibility to make sure you meet that payment date - if you push it back without the agreement of the other party (i.e the company you are paying) then you have breached contract and they will treat it as a missed payment. Look at it the other way - if the company you work for just decided they were going to push your payday back to the 7th, without telling you first, would you be happy?0 -

The bank have agreed with me on this, issued me with an apology and also a £100 good will gesture.0
