Direct Debit Taken Twice

Hi,
I have an issue with a personal loan with NatWest. I had a direct debit taken on the 2nd of March as per usual. I have recently changed jobs where my employer pays on the 1st of each month, so I contacted NatWest to arrange for the direct debit date to be changed to the 5th. I woke today to find that they have taken a payment again for the full amount without advising me prior. I have called the bank to claim back the additional payment and they have said there's nothing they can do to help me but they will open a complaint to see if the issue is their problem. I need the money as it's a large amount, so I have cancelled the DD and reclaimed the additional payment back to my account, I understand this will have a negative impact on my credit file but I have no other option as I need the money for the month.
Has anyone had an issue like this in the past, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Regards

So bank said can't help. Opps..... Someone does not know what they are doing.
You cancelled DD and it has refunded you? Very strange as cancelling a DD does not refund automatically. Which DD did you cancel 2nd or 5th?
When did you contact NatWest to change the DD date? We take it that both loan and bank account are with NatWest?Life in the slow lane0 -
Slightly related issue, closed my PO Online Saver and opened a new issue, setting up a monthly direct debit.
This month it seems PO have taken both direct debits for the new and the old accounts. Obviously as the old account is no longer viewable online though the PO site to all intents and purposes this money has "disappeared" into the virtual ether...
Am I best to take this up with Post Office, Barclays (the CA the DD was taken from), or the Direct Debit service?

Barclays to get an immediate refund of the DD taken erroneously (under the terms of the DD guarantee scheme). You can also call PO if you feel you want to ask what happened.1

Unless I have misread your post you asked them to change payment from 2nd to 5th and they have carried out your instructions.dtjones888 said:Hi,

If you had not made a payment until 5th April you technically would be arrears as you would not have made a payment within a calendar month.1 -
Yes, what they have done isn't a mistake. I once changed the payment date on a personal loan with Barclays and they did this too. It was straightforward to bring the payment date forward, but to move the date back would have involved making two payments in the same calendar month to avoid being in arrears.jonesMUFCforever said:

If you've made a payment on the 5th March and had it refunded then that should have no bearing on your credit file if your next payment is not due until 5th April or later. However, if you need to make your next payment on or before 4th April, you will miss a payment and this may affect your credit file.dtjones888 said:I need the money as it's a large amount, so I have cancelled the DD and reclaimed the additional payment back to my account, I understand this will have a negative impact on my credit file but I have no other option as I need the money for the month.

The payment for the loan is due on a specific date. That's contractual. Not your choice as to when to pay it. To move the DD backwards you would need payments to be already be in advance. Suspect there's been a miscommunication.0

Direct debits are set-up at least 10 days before the due. Impossible to pull them in the intervening period as are batched processing. The matter will self correct as the funds will bounced back to your account in due course.dcs34 said:Slightly related issue, closed my PO Online Saver and opened a new issue, setting up a monthly direct debit.

Of course I can choose the date on which my direct debit is taken. Not a miscommunication, more a lack of information on the banks part. I requested a move in date for the DD but they failed to informed it would take a second payment in the same month. All my other direct debits were also moved and the companies made sure that the next payment would be take the next month. Failure from the bankThrugelmir said:The payment for the loan is due on a specific date. That's contractual. Not your choice as to when to pay it.
