When we went, we had a combination of Starling, Monzo, Halifax clarity, Santander Zero and Barclaycard Platinum Travel cards. They all give pretty much the best exchange rate and don't have foreign exchange fees. (just to note, Monzo good for spending, but has a low monthly cash withdrawal limit for fee free cash)
Always good to have backup to main card.0 -
& have a decent limit on your CC. New Zealand isn't the cheapest destination (even if it may be one of the nicest !)

I used my revolut and MBNA travel credit card not taking out cash as you can pay for pretty much everything by contactless (or paywave as its called in NZ) I also agree with ^^^^ its not cheap but can be done cheaply. Thanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada  :dance:0

I also used revolut when we went to NZ with no issues.

I'm just back from Australia and NZ.
Credit & debit cards accepted everywhere so little need for any NZD. I used Starling and Halifax Clarity credit cards & husband used Nationwide Select credit card.
I did withdraw some cash from Starling. BEWARE some bank ATMs have minimum fee 7.5 NZD! From memory ANZ bank ATMs were fee free.0
