Amazon claim I sent back different item in box.

It will be due to the value of the item i.e over £500 their wording for not returning said "its not a facility we provide"Moneyineptitude said:
Do you have a history of such returns though?podunk said:I can still place orders, they just told me to return correct item for a refund.
But thats the thing, I have returned the item I received so not sure next steps, I did take a photo of card before I sent it.If not, it's very unusual for Amazon not to simply take the customer's word and refund accordingly. It's also strange that they won't send you back the item you have sent them...0 -
Which card did you buy, and which are they saying that they sent back?
Since you said you've got a photograph of the card that you sent back, do you still have that?
Also, did you buy from Amazon or Amazon Warehouse?
I'm just thinking it's worth being 100% sure of exactly what happened at each stage. I would expect there to be 4 things involved here:
1) The branded box showing the model number that was shipped to you
2) The card that was shipped to you
3) The branded box showing the model number that Amazon received back
4) The card that Amazon received back
It seems at some point something has gone awry, but if you can track down precisely what the mismatch is, it might help.0 -
Amazon direct, it was a RTX 2080 and they are saying I sent back a RTX 1080 both same brand and series i.e premium model I have a picture of the card but nothing of it inside the box.0

Does the box include a serial number? If yes, does that match what's on the card? (I appreciate that you may not be able to answer this).1

As I said, it's an interesting situation but I don't think we have been given a full picture.DoaM said:That's the thing ... if they don't return it (or the money) then they've committed an act of theft - they have no right to hold on to both. For a third time, I'll ask the OP to reveal whether he has previously returned items in this manner because he was apparently sent the wrong item? If this is not the case it is exceedingly unusual for Amazon not to simply accept the customer's word and refund or exchange without any question.I'd also like to know (truthfully) on what basis Amazon have refused to return the "wrong" item. Have they said they cannot return it at all or only when a full investigation has been carried out?Accusing Amazon of "theft" is likely premature and/or unwise given we have only one side of the story...1 -
My comment was based on the end game ... I've emphasised the important word.Moneyineptitude said:DoaM said:That's the thing ... And the box was for an RTX 2080 as well? And you're saying it was a STRIX 1080 and a STRIX 2080 or equivalent?podunk said:Amazon direct, it was a RTX 2080 and they are saying I sent back a RTX 1080 both same brand and series i.e premium model I have a picture of the card but nothing of it inside the box.
It is all very strange. I mean, if you definitely received a 2080 in a 2080 box, and definitely sent back a 2080 in a 2080 box, then the implication is that someone at the Amazon warehouse got your return, took out the 2080, found a 1080 from the identical brand and model and then swapped them before stealing the 2080.
From Amazon's perspective it's a very common scam for customers to swap them (to emphasise, I'm not saying you have scammed them) and people used to get away with it so I can understand why they're so sceptical.

I agree that it's very, very, VERY rare for Amazon to claim a wrong item unless the customer has a history of returns. Someone working in the returns centre is not going to know the difference between a 1080 and a 2080 at first glance, especially if it's the same brand of card.0

OP are you 100% sure that the card you received and sent back was a 2080 ?
Just because you ordered a 2080 and the box said it was a 2080 it isn’t 100% that you received a 2080.
A likely scenario is that somehow a 1080 card got into a 2080 box prior to it being dispatched to you and you assumed the product was what you expected and what the box said it was.
That might explain the issues you had with instillation, especially if you did t have the correct drivers for the card (ie - you were trying to run a 1080 with 2080 drivers)1 -
The OP mentioned earlier in the thread that they apparently photographed a 2080 card prior to despatching it back to Amazon.ToxicWomble said:A likely scenario is that somehow a 1080 card got into a 2080 box prior to it being dispatched to you and you assumed the product was what you expected and what the box said it was.0
