It is an academy, still looking at what they can and can't dozagubov said:A college would do this like a shot, on the grounds that they're not now teaching her as she's not studying there. But I wasn't aware that a school could do it. Or is it an academy now, as I suspect their rights differ from a school?0 -
Have you appealed the decision not to 'keep her on the books'?Shepp66 said:
Apparently if she goes private it does still link to the schools results. The reason is her lack of attendance, her mental health has suffered too and struggling to concentrate. Just seems crazy for the sake of a few months.silvercar said:What reason are they giving for taking her off the register? I would suspect it is because they don't want her results pulling their grade average down.
You should appeal that. Although 6th form isn't compulsory, that age group are meant to be in school, college or apprenticeships. They can't take her off the register for no reason.1 -
I am meeting with the school again Thursday and currently looking for advice and options. This thread was to see if anyone else has been in this particular situation. Have been looking online for guidance and contacting my own workplace employee assistance for possible legal advice too.Pollycat said:Shepp66 said:My daughter has been absent from 6th form due to ongoing health issues, genuine health issues. They have informed her that they can not continue to keep her on the books ( she is due to take her A levels in May !! ) but have said she can continue her A levels but as a private candidate. They then informed us that a school trip in July that she has part paid towards, she wont be able to go as she is no longer a registered student. Also they cant refund the monies already paid. My daughter wants to go and can do the trip, surely if they are stopping her they should refund the money in this instances. We are talking about £750 so a lot to lose. Any one else come across this issue, I accept if you pulled your child out its your problems but in this case, the school has caused this due to not letting her stay on 3 more months !!Have you appealed this? Can a school do this if a pupil has absences caused by genuine health issues?Apologies if this has already been done but if it isn't I'd be fighting that rather than a trip.0 -
If the school continues to be so unreasonable, go to the papers about it (cue for sad-faced photo of your daughter - maybe one with her school friends and a heading above it saying "Excluded !!!!"). I bet the school will soon back down then.2

I am looking at all options, the issue around appealing her leaving the 6th form is more straight forward and there are things that can be done and are being done, but should she be removed, the trip issue is far more vague and I am looking for advice on this on this thread.so that I can be prepared for all eventualities.

I think my daughter would be mortified if I did that, she really doesn't want the attention. I am speaking with her doctor too as I do believe she could be classified as disabled with the ongoing health issues she has and they need to take notice of that. But mentioning it may have some impact.0 -
I'm a little confused!
Are you saying that she's well enough to go on the trip (in 3 months' time) but not well enough to go to school?8 -
In 6th form, yes they can, once past compulsory education they no longer have a legal obligation to educate her.Pollycat said:Have you appealed this? Can a school do this if a pupil has absences caused by genuine health issues?Apologies if this has already been done but if it isn't I'd be fighting that rather than a trip.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I'm not sure that they can exclude her once they have accepted her on their roll.peachyprice said:

If that was the case there would be unscrupulous schools removing any students who were not going to get amazing A level results!I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
