Whats the best card to use in Hungary?

I am thinking to go to hungary for some dental work and was wondering what the best card is to pay for a service that will be in the £1000's?
I guess a pay as you go kind of credit card will do? One where I can load the money on from my bank myself rather than a traditional cc where you're loaned money.
Thanks

A credit card with no forex fees, such as Clarity.

Get a Curve card and link it to an existing credit/debit card to pay? As long as the transaction is made Mon-Fri there will be no FX fees.

I'm happy to provide a referral link if you PM me - we both get £5.

Just reading up on this. It seems you have to link your existing cards to it. I am trying to avoid using my santander card as foreign transactions incur a 2.75% fee (or something like that). Not sure what the fees would be, if any, when using the curve card? I am just trying to figure out the best way to pay around 4k in forint with the least amount of fees.

I should add guys that, I want the best exchange rate and ideally a prepaid card or a card that I can use within the next 15 days. So i think most traditional credit cards would be out of the question. I need to spend about 4000 to 5000£

Have you considered opening a Starling bank account, you can transfer money from your Santander account. Starling has no foreign exchange fees so gets the best rate possible

Curve has a daily spend limit of £2k for new customers so would not be high enough for a £4K spend anyway.

Curve does has its uses elsewhere though and if you sign up with code TFREE you should get £10 free.

When I joined Halifax Clarity they gave me £10k ish limit to start with - might be worth seeing if you can get one of them.

Is the vendor willing to accept cards for up to the full amount?

I'd be looking at cheapest bank transfers

The Curve card handles the currency conversion and bills your underlying card in GBP so you would not incur Santander's FX fee.

If you already have accounts with Santander, why not ask them for the Santander Zero card?

Forget prepaid cards, there will be fees and/or adverse rates.

Just open a Starling Bank or Monzo account (or both) on your phone, the debit cards will be with you in two or three days, ideal MasterCard exchange rates without fees.
    Evolution, not revolution

I agree with eDicky, I used to use a Caxton card but ditched it last year in favour of Monzo
