Smart Meter

Hello all. I'm actually a ,long standing member but have had to start again as in spite of the forum team replying to my email I still cannot access my account .
Anyhoo just wonder if you can advise me please? We've just had our latest bill - British Gas currently supplies us on a dual fuel tariff. I noticed the charge for electric for the last quarter was only £11 and after examining the bill, I realised the meter reading I gave them a few weeks ago for was the same as I gave last quarter. I looked at the meter in the garage and it's still reading the same numbers.
So I have called them and they've said they will send an engineer. But if they have to replace the existing meter due to a fault, will I have to accept installation of a smart meter? I know I can refuse one if they just ask me to have it changed, but what about this instance if it has to be replaced?
Also, any advice on the fact they have no way of knowing how much electric we have actually used? If they try to base a new bill on last year, we were with another provider, we away every weekend through November & December and this year has been milder so we haven't, in theory, used as much.
Thank you in advance.

You may wish to post in the energy section to get more replies as this is off topic for this section (alternative fuels, eg. Oil, wood, solar etc).

Follow the Link JJ-Egan posted. Or in main forum click in/on the black ENERGY folder. Not the two small blue sub folders underneath. The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0

Thank you, Hasbeen for explaining that. I thought I was going mad! I'm finding the new look forum a bit tricky. I have posted in what I hope is the correct place.1

They'll either fix your existing meter or replace it with a new one of the same type.
