Hi
Going to Derry for 5 day holiday and planned to hire a car. Was going to see Finn harps play on the Friday and maybe giants causeway on Sunday. Having looked up prices around 40-60 quid however two places I have seen have wanted 1.5k and 2k depoist. Can’t quite understand if this reduces with there premium insurance? Is there anywhere with much lower deposit people would recommend. Sorry if this is really obvious but never used car rental before hate company with hidden charges

Insurance does not reduce the deposit. The only thing that can reduce the deposit is a waiver and those are only offered directly by the car hire company, i.e. Hertz, SIXT etc and never a broker. For example Super CDW is a waiver and not insurance.0 -
When you buy the hire firm's own extra cover, reducing the CDW excess to zero, there's then no need for the large deposit or preauthorisation on your card.
You can buy such excess cover separately much cheaper, but the hire firm will need to take the deposit. Unless your credit limit on your card is insufficient, you can save quite a lot by using the separately bought cover.Evolution, not revolution0 -
I think I might just get the bus don’t trust any company with that big a deposit. Wish they were up front about it nearly missed it in the small print. If the ferry from Stranraer was reasonably priced would make such a difference0
