BT Misselling

Options
Hi,

I recently renewed my Broadband package with BT. In short, I was paying 29.99 a month and after some to-ing and fro-ing managed to settle on a new contract of 31.99 (for exactly the same service) with somebody from the Values team.

I then noticed on the email that came through, the summary of my new plan stated 41.99 per month. I rang back straight away and was told that this would be corrected when the first bill came through - however this has not happened.

After receiving my first bill charging me 41.99 I called up the Values team again and was told that I had agreed to 41.99 as per my profile, and there was no note on my account showing 31.99. I then had this raised for investigation in which the advisor informed me the final stage of an investigation by the claims team would be to listen to the call.

I am in no doubt the investigation will find I am correct - but I was wondering, what are my rights in this situation? If I have been missold something which I did not agree to, am I able to leave BT completely? Also wondered if anybody else had been in this situation.

Thanks in advance.

Not saying it will definitely happen but don't be surprised if they find that the recording of the call suddenly can't be found.
  • Why did you sign up for a contract paying more than you were, for the same exact thing? Should have kept it rolling contract then you can leave with 30 days or whatever notice.

You should open a complaint (phone them, say you want to open a complaint) and then mention this ordeal. ISPs HATE having complaints open as it affects their bottom line. Can't recall if they are fined once it reaches Ofcom or what, but it will light a fire under their bum.
