Immersion heater on Tempest Water Cylinder

Hi - first post but hoping someone can help!Recently moved into new house and out electricity bill has rocketed. Same size house, same use. However I was looking at our water tank (Tempest Water Cylinder) and I think the immersion has been on 24/7!! Before I switch off what I think is the immersion I wanted to see if anyone could confirm.
On the side of the tank is a round external item running to a electric switch. I've googled it and really sure its immersion. It doesnt need to be on if the oil boiler is sorting it all - does it!? Its been years since had this kind of system.

From your last photo it appears emersion has been left off. From your first photo it appears previous user had emersion when switched on at a low setting. Should be between 60 and 65CThe world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0
