someonehadmyusername - I was not inferring that you were not going to pay, I was discussing the issue in principle to be of assistance to anyone contemplating this course of action.

If you go to the Council cash office they will not refuse to accept a payment on account. It can take forever to set up direct debits, I would advise you to pay as near as you can to "up to date" and then set up a DD.

    Hiya

I would say go to evironmental health - not only will they ensure that any urgent work is carried out ASAP, they could possibly also get you a move quicker if they say your home is in a bad state. You need to ask whoever visits to give you a letter comfiming the state of your property.... once you have got this then pass it to the office dealing with your rehousing application.

With regards to the money / benefit situation - have you made sure you have got all the child / working tax credit you are entitled to? Being self employed makes it harded for them to work out your benefits - I think you would benefit from going to your local CAB or contact Shelter......... they are really nice people that know what they are talking about! You may also benefit from something called tenancy support........ trust me not as bad as it sounds! Not sure if they have tenancy support workers in your area - most areas have now got them and they are REALLY useful to have on your side.

Hope this helps.... keep us updated.

Phone book: they are a branch of the local council (but not hand in glove with Housing!) Or look on local council website: should be a phone no. there.

  • hi again!

    just to re-cap

i was pu on homelessness register in january and called up on monday

she said after 28 days, i should have been put down for more areas, but with my circumstances, i havent (being harassed etc)

so then she said she wasnt sure if they have done the best thing for me because they had brought in the new policy in march/april and everything changed

she said she would speak to some 'senior officers' and get back to me before the end of the week

    i still havent heard

basically a very confusing conversation which made no sense at all!!!

what i dont want is to be moved into a temporary house and then be moved back!!!
that would kill me, i'll call her tomorrow

ive waited 4 years in august!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you really need to get someone either from Shelter (as they have you as homeless) or Citizens Advice (because they can negotiate and interpret the new rules for you) to help you with this. Did you ever contact anyone to help? Did you contact environmental health?
    Torgwen.......... :) ...........
  • went to citizens advice and they were totally useless!!!!

i called the council this morning and said no-one had got back to me

she had no clues about my problems, put me on hold for a long time, and then came back and said, the reason the woman i spoke to on monday hasnt got back to you is that she is on holidays till monday, have you got a contact num

    gave her that
i'll pass on msg and get her to ring you monday
    dont you know anything?
well, you are homeless and will be given a house when its your turn

    that was all i got!
    useless!!!!
