Tenerife sandstorm flight delay question

Hello,
Our party of five were delayed recently coming back from Tenerife, there was a sandstorm which caused a lot of cancellations and delays but our flight wasn't directly affected as it was a few days after the sandstorm, TUI have rejected our claim for compensation saying it was due to a knock on effect of the bad weather and out of their control.
Our flight was delayed by just under 13 hours.
Any thoughts on this please?
Thanks in advance

Hoisted on their own petard. They have admitted that it was a knock-on effect. Did you fill in their online compensation form? If not do so and if you did ask them for a deadlock letter and take it to arbitration. Also, put your flight details into online flight checkers euclaim and bottonline and see what they say.1

I have already put all the details on Bottonline and now they keep sending me emails saying I could get compensation, I don't realy want to use them though as they take 50% commission.
I have emailed TUI back saying that I reject their rejection.0 -
They take approx 30%. You now need to contact TUI and ask them for a deadlock letter and go online to Alternative Dispute Resolution site and start the process OR you could straight to the small claims court.1

Hi, I’ve had the same response back from Tui after filling in the form for my parents. I just emailed the CAA to see if they can advise how long after the sandstorm had finished Tui can say it was knock on effect. I’m sure the TFS airport had been open more than 24hrs before the delay and there were no other flights with delays like this from any other Canary Islands. I’ve also emailed Tui to request complaints procedure.1

If you were on the same flight as mikeopvc follow the instructions I gave him.1

Hello, hope it's ok to ask in this thread, as my question is on a similar/ same issue: our flight was delayed by 25hrs and the sandstorm on Tenerife was given as the explanation. However, our flight was from Lapland (yes, North Finland) to Gatwick, so the "European Regulation EC 261/2004 11. Meteorological conditions or natural disaster or similar events “Closure of either the airport of departure or the airport of arrival due to these conditions and events.”" that TUI quotes to reject our claim does not seem to apply. Any thoughts? Many thanks in advance.0
