Starting Investing

I've managed to save 50K over the years, which I now want to invest. I'm happy to not touch it for 10 - 15 years (I'm 36). I have a house with no mortgage and additional funds to last me a couple of years if need be as well.

I don't know much about investing and neither do I have a lot of time to spend on it, so I'd want something that is relatively maintenance free. I don't necessarily want to invest it all at once and I've never had an ISA, so that's something else I'd need to learn. For now, as I don't have that much time to dedicate, could I just start with a small amount, without opening an ISA? Seems like the market having taken a dip, this might be a good time to get started. Any suggestions as to where to invest?

I would look at the various discussions on here about global multi asset funds such as HSBC, vanguard life strategy, L&G etc. Even if your numbers are small it is simpler to hold inside an ISA so you don't have to worry about capital gains tax.

    1. How long does it take to open a Vanguard account?
    2. How long does it take to purchase in to a fund? Is it a simple bank transfer, e.g: 2H?

A matter of minutes on line usually - most providers accept debit card payments.

You make no mention of your pension provision. Is it adequate and on target?
