How much cash do you still use and how (card) light is your wallet?

- Max £20 - would happily see cash being relegated to history
- 2 credit cards and 2 debit cards
- Tesco, Nectar
- Driving licence security pass to office and car park
- No - everything goes on card
I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!1 -
1. Normally £10. Not sure why. A hangover from the days I thought I might need some 'emergency' cash I guess.
2. I credit and 1 debit card. Others remain at home.
3. None
4. Driving licence, Oyster card, library card, gym card
5. Pay by phone whenever possible. Google Pay.

- How much cash?
- How many debit and credit cards? Which ones?
- How many rewards/loyalty cards? Which ones do you carry?
- What else do you carry in the wallet? (e.g. gym pass, travelcard, etc)
- Do you pay for things with your phone? Which app?
- 1 x £10 note, plus a bit of change for the works vending machine (cash only)
- 1 x debit card and 1 x credit card
- Donor card, no other loyalty/reward cards
- SIM card extraction tool
- Google pay with a selection of my other cards should I ever need them, but used very rarely
If we are travelling, then a couple of extras are added such as a back up debit and credit card and my E111

Typically about £20 in cash - notes and coins. Wallet contains 1 debit card, 1 credit card, RAC card and Driving Licence. One extra would be a note indicating any medication I might be taking.I used cash last Tuesday - £5.50 for a haircut and £1 parking. Not very often now though.1

Replaced my wallet with a card holder (got a separate one for my travel pass). That has my Curve card, 1 credit, 2 debit and my Nectar and Tesco cards. Also got my German ID card because it's easy to carry around as proof of age.
Only withdraw cash when I'm about to use it and use Google pay for most things.

1. £10 each week for my tennis class. No other cash.
2. One debit, one credit.
3. All loyalty cards on Google Pay. I use 3 key tags though, for Tesco, Co-op and Sainsbury's. Also carry a coffee stamp card.
4. Driver's licence. Local council card (gym, library, discounts). Oyster card. NHS donor card. Gift cards from H&M, Zara, Next - these are left overs from Christmas.
5. Contactless payments are enabled on my phone, but I only use it (rarely) when I don't have my debit card on me.1% mortgage over-payment challenge 2020: target £2,020 | over-paid YTD: £410.95 (20.3% of target)1 -
- How much cash? Around £30 or less. I withdraw £30 in cash when it drops below about £5.
- How many debit and credit cards? Which ones? Natwest debit card, Amex and Tandem. The rest stay at home.
- How many rewards/loyalty cards? Two for coffee shops and a Waitrose card.
- What else do you carry in the wallet? Driving licence, season ticket, library card and oyster card.
- Do you pay for things with your phone? No I don't see the point. Contactless cards are quicker than fumbling with a phone and I would still have to carry a wallet.

A traditionalist:
1. Cash around £100, regularly topped up (with small change in purse) and used for most things under £10.
2. 1 HSBC Debit, 1 HSBC credit.
3. Tesco Clubcard and unused Nectar (which seems pretty useless these days)
4. Driving licence, senior rail card, bus pass, National Trust card
5. No smartphone and phone rarely with me so 0

It's got to the point where I don't even carry my wallet with me anymore. It lives in a drawer and is only taken out for special occasions. Instead I carry a cardholder, which has 6 slots.
- £0 cash
- 2 credit cards, 1 debit card
- 3 loyalty cards (for 3 of the 5 supermarkets I shop at)
- Nothing else goes in the cardholder. My work pass and oyster card are carried separately, in their own holders.
- I pay for most things on a credit card via ApplePay. About once a week, I use the other physical credit card, which isn't registered for ApplePay. My debit card is only used to withdraw cash or to pay tradesmen (both rare occurrences).

I've gone back to cash, usually have a few hundred pounds in purse and in house due to lack of banks and ATMs in the area. I know how much a week I have to spend and am delighted when I have some left to put away for a treat or two. I also have credit cards which I rarely use for day to day spending but use for on line shopping.1
