So I am looking for a vented meaning old system
hot water cylinder. Not an indirect one which appears to be more complex and connects to a boiler:

    https://www.screwfix.com/p/rm-indirect-vented-ss-cylinder-935-x-400/40045

It does not seem that expensive and a titanium heater with cost about 50.
That one is indirect. And why replace the cylinder rather than the immersion heater? You just need to cut the old Fibre washer. Then it will come out.

Come on. This is a wind-up, right?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I'm more concern you checked the blue live
I was concerned too. But it was a non touching voltage checker. Which will come in useful when I connect the cooker and hub to a 60amp connector.
Blue should be at nil volts.
Unless the circuit is broken earlier in the neutral conductor, in which case the wire marked as neutral could actually be live.
OP, have you checked the heater element for continuity? Have you checked that the thermostat contacts are closed?
With the power OFF of course.
Those non-contact testers are NOT meant to be a safe means of testing that a circuit is isolated and so is "dead" and can't be used for any meaningful testing that things are working as they should be.
The readings from them can be effected by all sorts of stray voltages.
You need either a two pole tester (which is preferable) or a multimeter to test properly for isolation, and to make the other tests.
You need the knowledge to use them as well.

Sorry I realised this mistake later. Yes it was nill and the brown was live.

Maybe I should check the cold water tank as hot water tank seems empty. I did find a flange on eBay so even if you damage thread you can soldier on a new thread for a new Emersion heater.

Yes I also realised the second mistake the vented cylinder was indirect after I had done post.

Need to get out angle grinder. Obviously with goggles and dust mask.

  • got it out, but thread gone, though I thought it was empty but it is full

the temperature thermostat sits in a pocket (separated from the water) so is dry. If the immersion is the only heat source for heating the water your looking for a vented direct cylinder, are you sure your up to fitting one?

I do not think I can repair the old tank may need a plumber. Get a quote for a vented direct hot water cylinder.

I also noticed some sludge around the ball in the cold plastic tank above, may have to tell the plumber about that.

It’s a shame that you didn’t get a plumber to replace the immersion heater, rather than ruining a perfectly good cylinder.

Got new immersion all cost 800 at least this system has much better pressure. There is probably a moral to this story, I guess trying to work it out is halve of it.

  • What you have had installed is an unvented hot water cylinder.  I hope you are aware that:
    1. They may only be installed by a technician with a valid G3 registration.  Yours has not been installed correctly.
    2. The installation must be notified to your local Building Control department.  This is normally done by the G3 installer who self certifies the work.
    3. They must be serviced annually.

How do you 'service' a hot water cylinder?
