Wages never arrived in bank?

I have worked for the same firm for 6 years, never had this issue before. Its a small business and we are paid vis faster payments. It gets paid on a Thursday in the bank around 1pm. Anyway never arrived yesterday, I asked my co-workers, there's all arrived although none are in the same bank as me. I phoned the bank, no sign of anything, I checked with the wage clerk she showed me it being paid and it debiting the account, phoned the bank again who told me it might go in overnight, its now 6am and nothing went in over night. What has happened here? It seems to have just vanished, I am worried as most of my direct debits due out on the 1st.

You need to persist with your payroll clerk. I think that the first thing to do is to check the details of the receiving bank account. Are they correct? Have they changed since the last payment, either because you've changed your bank account or because of an accident at your employer's end? If that all looks OK, get the payroll clerk to talk to your employer's bank and ask them why your pay hasn't reached the correct destination. (If not, where is it?)

Whilst most faster payments complete with seconds or minutes, the transaction can take until the end of the next business day.
As a minimum, all financial institutions in the UK must abide by the Payment Services Directive (PSD) - this states that any payments made by mobile, internet or phone banking (including standing orders) must arrive by the end of the following business day at the latest.
Bearing in mind today is Friday though, I would not be prepared to hold out for it either and would be making as many proactive enquiries as I possibly could. Thankfully, I get paid by BACS.
Hope it ends well for you and is resolved quickly.0 -
I'll tell a short tale:
Last month, my boss didn't receive his salary into the bank. He queried a couple of colleagues who confirmed they had. Emailed payroll who said "Yes, we paid your salary into your new account as instructed."
At this point he was "What new account? I haven't changed my bank details with you."
Seems payroll had received an email, purporting to be from the boss (spoofed of course), they do have a form for change of details that you have to fill in, sent that out and the scammer duly completed and returned the form.
I'm sure that's not what happened to your wages, but shows what some scammers can do.
Procedures have been tightened up, there's no more form, and payroll won't accept change of details via email any more (we have to change them ourselves by logging into our payroll portal).0 -
Make sure the clerk at the office used the correct bank account details, if it's small shop it might be all done manually and mistakes happen.

I'm sure this 'glitch' will be sorted out but it's now friday so it may not be done before the 1st and you definitely won't want to incur any penalty charges or have to sort out missed payments.Longer term, try to change all your direct debits/standing orders etc to the middle of the month if possible.
