Ok so I’m working under a car when management shout “out the way” and immediately start to lower the ramp not giving me time to get out.
i shouted that I’m still under his response was “I told you to move”.
i have raised a grevience and was told it would be considered, but from what I have seen is management can pretty much do anything and get away with it.

I have been looking on hse web site but can find anything regards operating a vehicle lift with someone underneath.
what would be the next step if my grevence is unsuccessful?
and yes I’m looking for another job
thanks in advance

Why would the manager want to lower the ramp if someone was still working on the car on that ramp?
As there appears to have been no injury to yourself, then don't expect much from the grievance, the manager will probably have an answer for his actionsIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1 -

But I can’t find any info on this on hse website, don’t want to make a complaint and find that there’s nothing to complain about. I have done the webnote thing but it takes them up to 30 days to answer I’ll see if I get a chance to ring on my brake tomorrow

That’s what’s getting to me, why would anyone lower a ramp with a lethal weight on top of some one. It’s not proper workshop procedure, just need to find out what hse thinks but navigating government website you lose the will to livelincroft1710 said:Why would the manager want to lower the ramp if someone was still working on the car on that ramp?

You are not being paranoid. You need to have a cup of tea with "management" and tell them quietly that starting to lower a lift with someone underneath is not a safe way of working. Ask them never to move the lift until they are certain that the area is clear of people and equipment.
If they do it again, report them to the HSE, and then, buy a padlock and lock the isolator off so that the lift can't be moved while you are under the lift.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.3 -
I would definitely look into this.tacpot12 said:You are not being paranoid. Where I work there is a stringent "lock out" procedure for people entering robot cells or other dangerous areas, which will prevent anyone staring any machinery whist someone is in a vulnerable position. Failure to follow it is gross misconduct.3 -
The HSE won't have listed every ridiculous dangerous thing on their website, but I am pretty sure this comes under the heading of not safe.red_eye said:But I can’t find any info on this on hse website, don’t want to make a complaint and find that there’s nothing to complain about.

If management have such a poor attitude towards safety I would be looking to get out of there as soon as possible.

The OP includes "and yes I’m looking for another job".TELLIT01 said:If management have such a poor attitude towards safety I would be looking to get out of there as soon as possible.1 -
Were there any witnesses to this idiotic action otherwise it will always be your word against his.? Also they need to be willing to publicly say what happened which could cause job security issues1
