Best mid-sized luxury SUV.

Have budget of around £20,000.
Looking for suggestions for a good,second-hand luxury mid-sized SUV in terms of mpg, interior comfort, around a 2litre diesel engine or more.Don't want anything massive to carry around a large family.On-board reversing camera would be a help because the missus has destroyed the rear bumper every car we've ever owned
Opinions from anyone with any experience of Mercs,BMW,Audi etc gratefully received.
Thanks in advance.

Only past experience with Lexus, Audi, Merc, Audi and BMW.  Lexus has given us the least bills and repairs in the last 4 years of ownership.  To date only normal servicing, tyres and brakes which I think is pretty good.

Yea my Dad's LX450h has been faultless. Over 8-years old now and he's owned it for around 6 of those years. Never had an issue. Being a petrol hybrid may fair better than a diesel in the current climate too.
Servicing from a main Lexus dealer isn't cheap though....

If you want extremely cheap running costs, you could look towards the new MG ZS-EV. Hardly luxury though....

Are the Lexus Hybrids Auto with a CVT gearbox?  if so what are they like, I test drove a RAV4 the other day with a CVT box and while the car was nice to drive with plenty of power the engine did seem to rev a lot before changing up a gear. I assume Lexus have the same set up

Are you sure about that? The whole point of a CVT is that it doesn't change gears, not least because it doesn't have any. (Continuously Variable Transmission).

Is it not the case that a lot of CVTs are "stepped" to give a traditional geared feel, rather than feeling like a go-kart.

If you're looking at a luxury SUV, I'm surprised you're worrying about MPG.

Having looked at a lot of them, BMW and Range Rover would be my choice for the luxury and comfort.

Audis look terribly dated inside, Lexus feel and look quite cheap and the centre screen in Mercedes looks like an after thought.

    Thanks for the input.
Being reasonably well-off and still concerned about mpg and value for money are synonymous in my book. Just ask Michael O'Leary !😁
