Trading within a Stocks and Shares ISA

I'd like to know what the tax situation would be in this scenario please:
You have invested the full £20k allowance of a stocks and shares ISA (in one year) in a few companies' shares that have subsequently increased in value.
If you wanted to take some of that gain and invest it in different companies' shares, is it possible to do that within the tax benefit of the existing ISA (i.e. selling and buying within it)?
(In other words, is it possible to build your portfolio of shares above the number you originally bought within the ISA or is that effectively fixed until you sell shares with the realised cash leaving the ISA?)

Comments

  • Once in an IDA all income and capital gains can be used to purchase additional / different equities, there are no penalties in doing this,
  • Yes.. you can sell any holding or part of holding held in an ISA and use that money to buy any other fund or stock which will remain within that ISA.. lve done this a few times. I also have a couple of income funds which allow cash to build up within the ISA and once that builds up l use it to invest in other funds and stock of my choice.
  • Great, thank you.
  • I want to start a Self-Select ISA for this year and next using some of my existing share holdings (currently certificated) say 10 stocks up to £40000 limit would be under management at start. I know I need to set up a Stockbroker Account and only some offer the ISA Self-Select facility. The low annual cost options I have considered are: The Share Centre platforms, Jarvis Investments platforms, and Interactive Invest platforms neither of which I have used before. (Q1) Any help in choosing which platform would be greatly appreciated. I like the idea of fixed annual fee opposed to a percentage, free withdrawal etc but accept trading fees and a fixed management annual fee. I currently use Jarvis for execution only in certificate form.  (Q2) Another concern are the delays from certicate to account, then a further delay in bed/breakfast into ISA Self-Select. Do I need both accounts to proceed. (Q3) What would be an acceptable time frame in day / days to implement this?
    Thanks, R
