HMRC not paying out on second claim

  • Yes.
Apologies if I don't come across all professional with my wording but this is a new thing for me and I have tried to explain as best as I can.
  • Ok so you seem to be saying that on your first R40 you declared taxed interest of £110 (tax deducted of £22).

On your second attempt you declared taxed interest of £119 (tax deducted of £23.80) and are unhappy that HMRC don't want to refund the extra £1.80.

I think what you have done is a perfect example of why HMRC would be far better simply refusing any claims like this until the tax year has finished and then you might send them an accurate R40.

Why not try waiting until you have your P60 in April and send a revised R40 with the details for the whole tax year.  At the end of the day that is what an R40 is, a simple tax return of all your taxable income.

Your main issue is that you failed to declare the first lot of taxed interest when you completed the second R40.

As far as I can see I'm not sure why you think HMRC have done anything wrong given the information you have sent to them.  I suppose if could be argued that they should have sent you another £1.80 but that's all.
  • Ok thank you for your help.
