Switching Broadband

I think this is probably a simple one but I have read conflicting things so would like to check.
I am looking to switch providers for broadband, not in contract anymore. So do I need to approcah my current provider to cancel, or do I simply initiate the switch and let the new provider do all that? From what I can gather it is the latter but as I said, I have read conflicting things.

Just contact your new supplier, the process is gaining provider led and they will tell your old supplier.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20231

The exception being if you are with Virgin. You will need to tell them you are leaving, as the gaining provider won't.1
