On a slighter different note I have been informed by Santander call centre that their mobile app is far more secure than logging in on a computer, but just wondering if this is reallly true? 

Is Santander's encryption so strong that if for example a keylogger was installed by a rogue app on your phone, that the Santander mobile app could handle it and still protect your login creditionals.?

It's not really a factor of Santander's encryption, it's that you don't have the ability to install apps on your phone with that level of privilege, unless your phone is rooted or a security vulnerability in the OS is exploited, whereas it is much easier to do the same on PC.

The most secure apps will not let you take a screenshot, or use an insecure keyboard app, some come with their own secure in-app keyboard.
