What can I do re cost of holiday - Death of Girlfriends step father.?

My Girlfriend booked a holiday for herself, me (Boyfriend) and another couple.
She also paid for it all on her credit card and we gave her the money (a quarter each)
Unfortunately her step father looks like he may pass away soon and the holiday is in 2 weeks time and naturally she would be too upset to go on holiday if something does happen.
If she isnt going then I wont be going and the other couple possibly would go either.
Ive looked on my insurance and although it states that there is cover if a close family member dies including step parents but understandably it doesnt say step parents of girlfriend.
If her policy is the same i'm guessing she will be covered for her quarter?
Does this mean only she will be covered?
Does the fact that she has paid for it all on her credit card give us any protection?
Any one know where we stand here?

Have you tried to ask the insurer?
I would assume only she would be covered but this is just my assumption as they are not your close family.
Credit card protection would not apply here as you got what you paid for, this is an insurance only issue.

Check if there is cover for you cancelling because a travelling companion is unable to go for an insurable risk.

You may be covered by insurance but it's highly unlikely that the other couple would be.  You do need to check with the travel insurer.  I would ask the question now rather than after the event.

Does your/your friends policy mention death of a family member of a travelling companion?  Many do.

Insurance may want to know whether the step-father's condition was known at the time of taking out the insurance.  If it wasn't declared they could refuse to pay out even if medical emergencies of close relations are covered.
