Tracing a Credit Card payment?

Hi,
Looking to find the recipient of a payment by Credit Card I made in February 2019. There's nothing untoward about this payment, I just want to get in contact with them regarding some documents I no longer have.
I know the date it was paid, the value but the notification just says "Travel Insurance" and no company name - probably via the internet.
My bank just have the same information.
Is there any way of progressing this search?
Thanks for any help

Have you checked for a corresponding email confirmation from that date?

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have, unfortunately we suffered a large loss of emails due to Yahoo's "upgraded" security.

    Browser history?

Did you buy via a comparison website? That may also have a record, assuming you created an account.

If not, I'd go back to the card provider.  They should be able to help more than they are.

Odds on they will debit again this year...

  • Could the travel insurance amount be part of the same group of companies on your statement?
eg Halifax insurance on a Halifax card statement? - might explain why there is no name as a narrative.

I have seen that description before. Pretty sure it is a standalone company, but can't for the life of me remember who it was.

  • Thanks everyone for your input, the payments was proper and above-board and a one-off - it's the documents relating to it I'm after really and I don't have any hard copies. Can't, for the life of me, remember who it was - done via the internet

Seems a rather vague name entry.  I'm surprised your card issuer can't provide any additional information.

Was the travel insurance provided by the card provider itself?  That might explain why there's no company name.

You mention 'notification'.  Do you mean statement entry?  Have you looked at an actual statement?  Perhaps order a paper version (if you can't view it online).  There may be additional information on it.

I guess you could go nuclear and do a SAR on the account.  Front-line staff at the credit card company may not have full to your account information.

go to the statement online and download it as a .csv  or  spreadsheet file. look at in a spreadsheet. there could be an identifying number , there is on tesco and john lewis finance,
    eg
     ASDA SUPERSTORE HYSON GREEN GBR NG7 5FP 35377750045010300000000 D 5411

the 35377750045010300000000 is an identifying number you may be be able to search with
good luck, let us know your progress please

Something many people think that credit card/banks have more info on these retailers. Sadly not. Lost track of the number of people I have spoken to, who think that banks have copies of the receipts on purchases and get upset when we can't tell them what they bought 👀.
The description you see on a statement is the same as the staff see. Only additional info we may get (if lucky and retailer adds it) is maybe a location or telephone number. Sometimes the authorisation has a different name, but that will have long gone. Other than that it is down to previous queries staff have handled. We keep lists of these descriptions. Sadly can't find this one.
As I said. I have seen this before, but can't think who it is.
So a SAR is not going to get anything further.

The description you see is down to the retailer and their merchant bank. There is a retailer classification code. But that will just say Insurance co.
If it was a transaction in the last 120 days, you can request a voucher from them which can help. But many retailer do not supply them (do not have to) so it is a long shot.

It is as frustrating for us staff, as it is for customers.
