NatWest Card Reader

Options
Opened a new a/c, on-line but access limited until the card reader is activated. I typed in the correct digits sent to the card reader & included the space (1234 567), failed 3 times & the card was locked.

On-line chat reactivated it & said the code sent to the card reader must be entered with NO space (1234567), I've tried that twice now, failed both times. If I do it again the card will be locked again.

Does anyone know with/without the central space the card reader indicates.

Its without the space - but it's 8 digits, not 7.

Thanks. After speaking with on-line chat & trying again, I was surprised to get 4 + 3 numbers. My husband was there as well, equally surprised!  We have a Nationwide a/c which uses a card reader, always 8 numbers with a space in the middle which is entered.

I'm so surprised nothing says "no spaces". Thanks for clarifying.

Definitely 8 digits and ignore the space. Sounds like a broken card reader display.  Ask NatWest for a new one.

If you already have a Nationwide card reader you can use that instead.

Quite so. As it happens, I do it the other way around - I use a NatWest-badged card reader with my Nationwide account.

A Barclays one used to work too although haven't tried for a few years.
  • I'm in the same situation, new Natwest a/c, no card reader. I tried my old Nationwide one, and got the 7 digits the OP had. I then tried a Barclays one and got 8 digits.

Good old NatWest , messing around again. I hate those readers, and I sometimes put in the wrong card, as I have more than one account with NatWest. I agree with those posters who advise getting a replacement reader. But it's worrying that the same thing has happened to two separate posters on this thread. What if it's a faulty batch of readers and this thread goes on for months?  :)

Well it is nice to know it is not just me, well me and my mother.  We have both had problems and have followed instructions to the letter.  I even ordered a new card reader and have just tried that, same problem again.

Tried it there with a nationwide reader as someone on the thread suggested but it is still not working.

You need to register the card reader to your account, I can't remember how I did it as it was months ago.
