  • Hi. Our flight to Lanzarote from Belfast on 22 Feb was cancelled and Easyjet have refunded us the costs. I had 4 rooms booked which I paid for as a family treat which the hotel wont refund. These were booked seperately from flights. My insurance has said thay will refund me for 1 room that was booked on my name but not for rest of family. I paid for everything so is there anything I can do to get the money back for other 3 rooms? Will their insurance cover it even though they didnt pay anything?

What has their travel insurance company said ?
This scenario is one of the drawbacks of DIY bookings compared to traditional packages.

  • Unfortunately you're likely out of luck - the hotel was still there for you to use, you just didn't turn up.
As above, this is one of the problems with putting a holiday together rather than through an agent.
  • Just a thought - how long are your rooms booked for, and could you get a substitute flight out to Lanzarote in order to fulfill your hotel reservation ?
I have no idea how a "no show" works in respect of hotel bookings where the client doesn't turn up though on the original date.

"If you're delayed more than five hours, you can get a refund regardless of cause. If you no longer wish to travel you can ask for a refund after this point, which will include any unused parts of your booking such as a return flight. If you opt for this though, you'll no longer be entitled to any further care and assistance. If your flight is cancelled, you're entitled to a new flight or refund."

What happens if you don't decide not to travel until the time of the substitute flight?
Travellers delayed due to the sandstorm and then hear that coronovirus is in the resort, so at that point decide not to travel ie at the time of the rescheduled flight, not on the day of the delay.
