I've had an email today from FD about interest rate rises from 1 March (reproduced below). No mention of any rise to the Regular Saver. All very strange.

The Regular Saver isn't mentioned because it's a fixed-rate account. The rate is fixed for the entire term at the point of opening, so the rate is not changing on any existing accounts, so no need to notify.

But it has changed on my existing account.,,,
    Sorry, my mistake.

I have a Virgin Regular Saver already but want to open their M Plus Current Account.

In the application process for the M Plus, there's an option of  'I have other products with Clydesdale or Yorkshire Bank'

Do I select that given that I have a Regular Saver? There's no option for 'I have a Savings account with Virgin Money'

I would say not as Virgin operate a somewhat hotchpotch set up. Whilst both are Virgin Money accounts the current accounts and regular savers operate on different systems with separate login credentials. The system for the current accounts would not recognise you from your regular saver details.

Moneyfacts is reporting that Saffron Building Society will be launching issue 9 of their 12 month fixed rate members regular savings account.  It will be paying 1.75% and allows deposits of £50 - £500 per month.

Going by previous announcements, I expect that it will be available via the Saffron BS website from Wednesday, 2nd March.

    https://www.saffronbs.co.uk/Savings/Regular-Savings-Accounts

Existing holders of the issue 8 members regular saver may not be able to open it though.  Let's see once it has launched.

The predicted new Saffron BS Issue 9 members RS is now available on their website:

    https://www.saffronbs.co.uk/savings/regular-savings-accounts/12-month-fixed-rate-members-regular-saver-issue-9

Its T&Cs are in line with predictions by Kazza and others, including that one can't hold Issue 9 alongside Issue 8.

However, as Nick_C has pointed out, it should be possible to close Issue 8 and then apply for Issue 9.  It would be helpful if anyone on here who does just that could kindly confirm that it worked OK and no interest penalty gets applied. Thanks in advance for that.

    Saffron issue 9

Checking online I seem to currently have a Regular Saver A!!

My Regular Saver A is an Issue 8 that was formed from a maturing Issue 7, so possibly the same for you?

My Saffron Regular Saver A was formed from a product switch from my Regular Saver 8 which meant the maturing amount was kept in the Regular Saver and the same account number was preserved.

Just finished a call with Saffron after asking for a call back (which was done in my requested time) and the very nice lady opened the RS 9 with £500 and closed the RS A, returning the approximately £3000 balance to me, which will go into my 1% Virgin Easy access and then be fed back into RS 9.

So I will have lost some interest from not switching the full amount like I could do in a maturing product switch.

Not sure how much better off I am Anyone care to do the maths? :#

Your money may go "down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... I got all tricked up and came up to this thing, lookin' so fire hot, a twenty out of ten..."

Saffron list the new regular saver as being a possible "maturity option" for my existing regular saver.

But am I right in thinking that it's not a true maturity option, because I could only switch 1 monthly payment (£500) of the maturing balance into the new R.S. and the rest of the balance would have to go elsewhere?

Did they let you keep the old account number (as per normal rollover maturities) or did it have to be a full closure and open a brand new account?
