For anyone currently interested in opening a variable rate one year Regular Saver that accepts £500-1,000 monthly payments, there are still some better deals out there, including Coventry BS (1.55%), Leek BS (1.35%) and Scottish BS (1.35%).  Just saying.

After reading this I opened the Scottish BS regular saver -  many thanks for posting about it.

The opening was so easy, I downloaded the form and took it along to the branch in town along with passport, driving licence and cheque for the first deposit.  They gave me a receipt and promised to send out the passbook the same day.  And they did, along with a thin but glossy brochure about the BS.

Glad it was easy! For those of us not living in Scotland, the ID necessity to post a certified copy of a passport or driving license, makes application for a Scottish BS regular saver a "no no" for a lot of us.

Yes, those of us living in Scotland share the same feelings about England based accounts.

Have just applied for, opened and paid in to my Principality Christmas 2021 Regular Saver - didn't know it existed until I saw it mentioned here, so thank you!  A question - I already have a Regular Saver Issue 22 (had it for around 6 months); Can I also open a Reg Saver Issue 23?  The T&C outline mention only having one bond per customer, but as it is another Issue... perhaps it is possible to hold both at the same time?

Yes you can open issue 23, its one bond per customer per issue, one of mine just matured along with last years Christmas saver this week and I have 3 others so open away 😀. They used to release a new issue about evey 2 months before covid so now they've recently released issue 23 it will be interesting to see if return to that 2 month interval.

Great, good to know! Also spotted that Coventry BS has an issue 3 reg.sav. which I should be able to apply for as I currently have an issue 2.  This is good timing for me as I was looking for something to do with my NS&I savings once the rate drops.

    8. Homebuyer Accounts
Hanley Economic BS Home Deposit Saver

Instant access is permitted penalty free providing the funds are withdrawn for a house deposit linked to a mortgage with The Hanley.
Just been scanning the list for any further attractive accounts that I could open and I noticed three things about this Hanley Economic BS Home Deposit Saver account
    1. It can be opened by branch OR post
    2. "Account holders must live within 25 miles of the Society’s Head Office, postcode region ST1 5TB.", unsure if this is a new condition but worth pointing out.
    3. Also worth pointing out to readers here the small print for the BS accounts set out two types of interest rate changes. One of which (7.6) would give you the "right to switch the account or close it without loss of interest or additional charges." under (7.10) however the other option to the BS (7.5) covers BoE changes and other things restricting this "Get out of Jail card" .
