  • Here is the whole email received at 1337 hours today from Skipton BS. It's individualised, referring to the 3 accounts held by me (only one is an RS).

"We're reducing your savings interest rate. The Bank of England have recently reduced their base rate, and we've made the difficult decision to reduce the rates on some of our savings accounts.

Part of our aim is to offer long term good value while continuing to manage costs for both savings and mortgage members. Most of our accounts don't directly track the Bank of England base rate but we need to make sure our interest rates are sustainable over the long term.

The interest rate on your below savings accounts will reduce on 9 December 2024. More information about the reasons for varying rates can be found in our Savings Account Terms and Conditions.

    Your updated rates

Bonus accounts with an introductory bonus interest rate are shown in the table above with a ‘BA’. The interest rates shown are for the account as at 10 November 2024 - where applicable this includes your bonus rate.

It’s important to note that if we have already contacted you about your bonus rate coming to an end, or you receive a communication from us before 9 December 2024, then your interest rate might be different to the interest rate shown above."

Thinking of applying for Melton Regular Saver 6.
Dont normally go for postal operated accounts.
Wasn't going to send id docs on first application attempt, usually i get ID electronically for bank/bs applications.
Do they typically look for verified ID?

Hanley Online Regular Saver (NLA) interest rate reduction from 5.5% to 5% wef 01/12/2024

This has come as a blow, as like others, I was going to start fully loading each month. However, with 6 free withdraws a year, it still has its place, even as a 2 month draw down account to fund higher regular savers, if needed ;)
The HEBS Online RS only allows 5 penalty free withdrawals per tax year, not 6, but still a good account to hold onto 😊

    Can I withdraw money?

You can make 5 withdrawals per tax year (6 April to 5 April) without penalty. All other withdrawals are subject to 30 days loss of interest on the amount withdrawn. Withdrawals will be made to the nominated bank account provided at the time of opening the account. £1,000 must remain in the account following a withdrawal.

I stand corrected with 5 withdraws but it still has its place........... ;)

  • Looks like The Vernon are keeping the on-line Regular Saver at 6.5%.

However it’s currently restricted to locals (local to Stockport.)

I only found out about this recently. I’m in the CW (Crewe) area which qualifies.

It’s an unusual account. After a year the balance gets transferred to an easy access account and a new Regular Saver automatically started. Since the Regular Saver is (supposedly) not even for existing members at the moment that rather suits me. Although need to see if that actually happens.

Note over the years Vernon keep tweaking requirements. Sometimes they are strictly locals only. Usually they offer some dire fixed rate accounts to anyone. Sometimes they let anyone in - a few years back they offered an on-line easy access nationwide. It’s worth checking on them if you really fancy membership.
