Thanks for HSBC tip, I m applying now, much appreciated.

The yorkshire building society 50 gbp 8% application is open wednesday, I couldn't see it online so popped into their branch.  Technical difficulties apparently
Yeah tech difficulties, Bridlington rang them earlier, I asked on their webchat earlier they didn't know when it would be, will try on Wednesday then, thanks

Edit: Bridlington got told tomorrow (Tues), I'll try tomorrow then Wednesday 🤣
To be fair I rang them fairly early on in the day so my suspicion from the available info is that they were planning to launch it tomorrow but have since ran into further technical issues and decided to delay the launch by another day till Wednesday, with the possibility of further delays from there.
They will launch it soon and I think it will stay on the shelf for much longer than the MonBS's 7%er in August last year.  YBS is a relatively large provider and it's only £50 p/m per head, so I think everyone who is the ball will be able to get their slice :)

  • Just thinking it will be nice to see HSBC enter the 7% zone next to First Direct, CO OP & Skipton on Regular Savings page (1 less 5% account to have listed & maybe puts a bit of pressure on others to up their game), same as YBS next to Principality under the open to all section.

(It was only updated the other day, guess someone will have to update it again soon😁)
HSBC has been bumped up on the MSE page😊
  • Dang, I switched out my HSBC Advance current account for a switching bonus a few months ago. I'd had the account for 8 years just for the associated RS but reckoned that the RS was likely to remain stuck in non-competitive territory

Bad move. I might try to open another but not feeling I want the hassle at the moment. Plenty more going on in RS land.
  • Regarding Loughborough BS, I've had two of their RS's in the past. Once set up, I honestly can't say that I found the lack of internet access a problem. The problem was that they launched RS's with enticing rates, longer lasting than usual and high monthly maximum contribution levels but didn't maintain the rates even when base rate didn't change.

Can someone remind me how it works if set the date of £250 standing order from a Santander current account to HSBC current account as the same day the £250 standing order goes into the HSBC regular saver? If Santander process their standing orders after HSBC and thus funds not there when HSBC try and take then do HSBC automatically try again later in day a bit like banks do with direct debits? Thks

No, with standing orders I believe that if the money isn’t there in the account , unless you have an overdraft then the standing order isn’t paid.
so you would need to make sure the money is there the day before I think.
it is the customer who controls standing orders not the recipient of them like direct debits.
  • Loughborough Retirement Saver

Do Loughborough BS send withdrawals electronically by faster payment or is it a cheque in the post (or you pay for CHAPS)?

Doesn't seem like they've solved their technical issues. I managed to open the account, but not without numerous error messages along the way and a death loop of an error at the end.
