Yep, most 4K TVs are wasted most of the time right now, because most of the time, they're showing 1080 content. If you think you're going to make normal, HD, broadcast TV, look as good as 4K, you're onto a loser.

To the OP. I feel you should uprgade the TV. Samsung are much better quality sets
