Which plug adapter?

Hi, I bought myself a second-hand mitre saw this week to do some woodwork with. It was the Evolution 255
I didn't realise when I picked it up that the plug has a strange end to it, as you can see from the photo below (it is the yellow one). To try and connect it to the mains, I bought a caravan plug adaptor thing (in blue) but, althought they are similar, they do not fit together. As you can see in the photo, aligning the two 'dimps' on the outside of the plugs leads to two prongs from the yellow plug against one prong from the blue one. So, I am stuck now. Does anybody know what adapter I need to buy for the plug in yellow below?

You need a site transformer power supply of a suitable rating for the tool (wattage or amps) - check its' rating plate.

The tool is a 55-0-55 Volt unit (110V across the two 'live' pins, only 55V to earth).

https://www.screwfix.com/c/electrical-lighting/site-transformers/cat830094 are examples of the transformer.

Or sell the 110V tool and buy a 240V version.

    EDIT:
If you bought from Amazon then either you clicked on the wrong 110V version, or they sent the wrong 110V version. So a swap for the same price correct 240V version should be possible.
Always assuming you aren't working on professional building/construction sites where 110V will be mandatory.

    As above.
Whatever you do. Do not connect it to your existing mains supply. It will blow. Requires correct transformer.

Was it advertised as a 240V version? If so, take it back and ask for a refund. I'm bemused by this. Since you bought it used, I'd assume that at the very least you asked the seller to plug it in and demonstrate that it worked. And, if they did that, it would have had to be plugged into a 110V site transformer, not directly into the mains.

If you look at the link the OP provided it is advertised as being 220/240v though it does give the choice of either 110v or 220/240v looks like they may have clicked on the wrong one.

Well he's clearly bought the 110V version. Maybe he just didn't provide the correct link.

The link goes to both. The choice does not change the URL. 110 version is more expensive at the moment. OP Which did you buy?

Perhaps OP is showing Amazon link to show product? When I first read post I assumed because it was picked up then private seller? At the moment Amazon are only showing used for the 240v saw. Only new for the 110v saw.

  • Thanks for the replies. The Amazon link was just for reference. I didn't appreciate the difference so made a mistake. Will put this one on Ebay and buy a different one.

Are you saying you didn't purchase through Amazon?  Wherever you purchased from you have 2 weeks under distance selling regs to reject and return the item.  Why not just do that?  Alternatively, check what you actually ordered to confirm they sent the  item you ordered.  Even if they did they would probably be willing to exchange it.  Costs could be lower than the loss you will make by reselling it.

Does that work with private seller? ebay? gumtree? etc.  Op has not said where it was purchased.
