Npower default

After seeing a mortgage advisor my credit report showed a default of £58 from Npower as settled. We moved provider when in a previous property and within weeks of switching our landlord gave us notice and we quickly moved property.
It transpires after speaking to npower this £58 was a final bill. It was sent to debt collectors and eventually written off. I can emphatically state I knew nothing of this bill. Absolutely nothing. All their correspondence was sent to the previous address. I have requested that the account be reopened which they have done and has been paid.
Npower have confirmed that whilst credit people will be notified that payment has been made in full and account closed it will still show as a default account and will not be removed from my credit file.
My advisor has told me that this will effect put an end to my mortgage application. I am so upset. Is there anything I can do? Npower have said I can appeal but won't win as the default was recorded correctly. Its my word against theirs. Also said it was pointless going to Experian as they will always take the side of the company.
Please, any ideas??

Err get a new adviser!!
Most lenders will allow these sorts of blips and the fact it is under £100 and settled will work in your favour. I know of a few lenders that won't have an issue with this whilst still offering you a High Street deal.
*The only caveat to this is that the rest of your case is so complicated that only one lender will offer you the deal neededI am a mortgage broker and IFA. Omg. Thankyou so much. I've literally been in tears this afternoon. When he saw it he practically closed his book and said game over 😢0

Please name and shame the broker firm. Is it an EA one?"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Some like Vanilla deals only. Other work for their money. Shame but that's their business model.
As said, you should be able to find a decent broker that could do this for you. I've seen Halifax do cases for one client with £16k and £22k defaults in the past!I am a mortgage broker and IFA. When was the default registered?
What percentage deposit do you have?
If it makes you feel any better, I have a case on my desk at the minute with 9 defaults and 2 CCJs - I am 99% sure this person will have a mortgage by next week. The "record" so to speak is 15 defaults - they got a mortgage too.

I wouldn’t worry about your default! I’ve just secured a mortgage today from Halifax and I had a default with BG for £80 back in 2015 which was settled. My application was really quick and easy with Halifax through my broker! He was fantastic from start to finish reassuring me everything would be fine. To give you an idea of my experience, I am a FTB and got an AIP on the 7th of Feb, and quickly found a new build we fell in love with and had an offer accepted. The application was submitted on Saturday 15th Feb and passed all credit checks and paid the £200 valuation fee. Halifax instructed the valuation on Monday 17th and I got my full offer this morning Thursday the 20th. Find a good broker and you’ll be in safe hands, I hope you find what your looking for.1
