Mobile Wifi Call

For those of us in rural areas with very poor mobile signal, especially indoors, wifi call is an alternative option. This is where the phone uses a wifi signal to route the call across the internet. My problem is finding info on companies that do this? It is a service provided by BT which has tied us to BT broadband and mobile contracts for some years. I believe EE also have a similar service. Does anyone have a list of other companies that provide this service - it rarely appears as an option on comparison sites for either BB or mobile contracts.

Most broadband supplier do have free WiFi available for when your out and about, some have areas like London underground,
BT supply hot spots where you can sign in to there app if your a customer, all bt fibre home automatically give out free WiFi into the street so it's just finding a bt home for a signal,
Then your home BB has wifi on this you can use, what's app, Facebook messenger, Skype to talk to people in your phone directory for free WiFi calls as long as there using the same apps

We used to have a Vodafone box which was fine when it worked but kept burning out. Now we use wifi calling. Had to check
    a. the phone was capable
    b. The network offered it on the chosen phone
Only the main networks(Vodafone, 3, EE, O2, BT) plus id mobile do so you can't use,say giff gaff or tesco mobile. There are lists of phones that are capable and on which networks but nearly all Iphones and most Samsungs are ok.

My partners android phone doesn’t support this function but thankfully my IPhone does. Sky wanted to charge us £8ish a month for the privilege of making a phone call (anytime package) when we needed too so was rather happy when I realised we could do so via the WiFi instead.

That is true about only the main networks offering wifi calling, but only on contracts, except for three who do it on payg, well on my s7 they do anyway. The call quality is suberb

There is plenty of choice of VoIP providers without having to use WiFi calling from the same mobile network as the SIM card, or worry about which phones are set up to support it.

Some providers have their own apps, or there are generic ones, or some phones including Android support direct entry of account SIP details somewhere in the settings. I first did this using a Nokia E51 in 2008, so it's not a new concept.

For anyone interested in my initial question this link provided by callum5 is perfect - recent article and a good coverage of the subject. Thanks.
