Money for Cancun Mexico

Hi all my son is off to Cancun shortly he's taking £2000 he wants £1500 in pesos and £500 in USD.  He is quite hopeless and loses nearly everything lol, is  there anyway of taking money on a prepaid card to withdraw out there that doesn't cost the earth. He is traveling with tui if they do anything?
I asked on TripAdvisor and someone mentioned a starling card? And not to bother with dollars. Any help appreciated

The currency of Mexico Is the peso. Unless you already have some spare dollars to use up, it would be unnecessary expense and hassle to buy them.

Plenty of pre-paid travel cards or the like, just search this site.
I wouldn't take that much cash with me, money is easily withdrawable in Mexico, machines for both peso and US, just be watchful of the charges, even though your bank may not charge, a lot of the local banks still do.

To be honest, if in Cancun, most things are easily payable by card.

The Starling card is an excellent option. It is all done online and your phone app keeps track of your transactions, exchange rate used, balance remaining etc. It is based in £ so can be used in the UK like any other debit card. I use a Monzo card (which works in a similar way) virtually all the time both in the UK and abroad.

For going to Mexico I would recommend the Starling card over Monzo.

You can usually get one inside a week.

Starling bank all the way  which is Mastercard and you get the MasterCard day rate with no fees - might be also worth taking a BO from Natwest card as its Visa - again you get the day rate and no fees
