Thanks for taking the time to update.
Let's hope that's the end of it.

    Stay well.

Seems sinister enough to me, though quite foolish too.
Obviously the former occupants believe they can somehow avoid their debts by doing this, but they might just as well be throwing the letters in the bin for all the eventual good it will do them.

So either continue putting the letters back in the mail or put them in your own bin. They'll soon stop...

Thanks for updating the thread and stay well yourself..

  • I can't remember from the previous three pages, but do you actually know where these people now live?

If you do, I think I'd be inclined to prepare a template letter saying something along the lines of "I am writing to advise you that Mr and mrs (or whatever) Yyyyyyy have not lived at this address since xx/xxx/xxxx when they sold the property.  I can advise you that the last known address I have for them is blah, blah, blah.  I should be grateful if you would (a) amend appropriately any records you have in respect of Mr & Mrs Yyyyyyy, and (b) cease trying to contact them at this address".   (I presume you have at least some sort of forwarding address for them from when you bought the property?  Perhaps you should ask for correspondence to be addressed to them c/o the solicitor who acted for them on the house sale?).

Then I'd open all the mail, batch it up by sender, enclose the template letter, and return it.  I'd use a stamp the first few times and then I'd simply put it in a letter box marked:  "Return to Sender.  Unknown at this address as previously notified."

I don't think that there's a problem with opening mail addressed to other people at your address that RM has already delivered to your address, so long as you are not acting dishonestly.  See what other people think.

Again I can't remember but have you approached the ICO about companies wrongly using your address to contact a third party?

Thank you it is good idea I will contact them.
I don't have a forwarding address they left under a cloud??? Long story short they trashed the house and garden. My solicitor said there was no point taking them to court as although we would win they did not think that they would ever pay.
    Nasty nasty people.
But I will get a template letter prepared.
In the meantime once again massive thank you to everyone with the suggestions they really did help.
Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A
