Talk Talk - problem cancelling my account.

Options
Hi All,
I have been a customer of TalkTalk for years. I started with One to One in 2006, which became Pipex, and subsequently Talk Talk.
I get paper bills, because I find their message board practically impossible to use. (I'm not very computer literate, It is mainly for my son's use). I don't use a mobile phone either.
I am trying to cancel the account, as I have moved house, but am having all kinds of problems in cancelling. I am many years out of contract. They ask for the most weird questions, one of which was certain numbers of my Direct Debit. (which sounds suspicious).
It makes it worse that their call centre is very noisy and I can barely make out what is being said, although for my age, I have very good hearing. I have managed to cancel BT (Line), but Talk Talk are another thing entirely.
Can anyone help me, please?

Presumably the call centre agent was trying to establish that you are indeed the account holder by asking questions that only the account holder is likely to be able to answer. If you are hesitant or refuse to answer that will likely make the agent suspicious and refuse the cancellation request.
  • She took my phone number and promised to call back. Didn't happen. Will try again or will try to get the CEO's Email address. Maybe that will work.
  • Being old and with sight only in one eye, it gets difficult, using computers now.
Thought it would be easier for everyone if I waited to get moved first. Obviously not.
  • Problem is,The BT line will be cut off on the 28th.

Quite a few years ago a friend had AOL broadband (which I think were related to Talk Talk) She spent months trying to end the contract repeatedly being told to phone back on certain days etc. It wasn't until she explained her phone had been disconnected that the contract was ended. Have you told them there will be no phone line from the 28th?

I moved on 20 February to a new provider and am having similar problems. I will post a new thread. Ofcom do not deal with individual problems, you have to raise an issue with TalkTalk which they don't respond to, drop and don't tell. Carry on billing and send threatening emails (two so far today) if you have the audacity to cancel your direct debit. However, If enough people register their problems with ofcom (unable to post link but found under broadband and billing)

Ofcom may well investigate. TalkTalk were fined and told to do better in the future follow this for this detail /competition-bulletins/all-closed-cases/cw_01051 may help you find it.
