Virgin Media - no cable

Options
The road in front of my house is privately owned (by me).  When NTL cabled the area many years ago, the woman who then owned my house refused them permission to dig up her bit of the road, with the result that my house (and the three houses downstream from mine) never got cable.

I'm now rather surprised to find Virgin insisting that I can take their broadband service.  This is not based just on their online checker, I spoke to them and they were adamant that my address is suitable for an engineer install.

I simply don't see how this is possible without the road getting dug up.   Am I going mad?  Have I missed something?  Or (as I suspect) is their database plain wrong?

I really don't want to set off loads of faffing around with them if it's not possible to get their service in the first place.  Does anyone know what their engineer install entails and if it really is possible if the nearest cable is not to my house but to the house next door?

fwiw, I would think if a regular VM engineer turns up and realises they can't complete the installation, they will advise you they have to make arrangements for another crew to come back and dig up the road etc to lay new cable.  Allow up to 8 weeks for this to be completed.

I had a similar situation a few years back. New build houses along about 30 meters of an exiting road, houses either side of the new builds had VM but there was a gap in the cabling where the new builds were. I had installers out who realised that the pavement would need to be dug up so would arrange for this to happen only to send another installer. After this happened 3 times i gave up.
