Cordless Vacuums: worth it?

Hi all

My wife-to-be wants us to get a top of the range Dyson (V11?) I went to look at them with her but didn't anticipate the price (£600+/-).
With an upcoming wedding its out of the question but several family members want to give us money as a gift.
We currently have an old Dyson we inherited from my Nan which is up for renewal. I too would like a cordless to use on the car but wondered if they could compete with their wired counterparts? And if, in your opinions and experiences, they were reliable, powerful enough, and justified in their high prices?
That being said, I am not sure I'd use a £600 hoover on my car - I'd be worried about grit and stones damaging it.

Many thanks

We bought a gtech as a second cleaner as I was fed up of dragging the dyson up the stairs. In a short period of time, the gtech became the cleaner of choice, and the dyson was relegated to the garage for OH to vac the car.  When the garage dyson died, we replaced it with a second-hand one for a few quid.  Would never go back to wired cleaner again.

We bought a V11 absolute at xmas £499 less 8% with work vouchers. Yes still expensive but this is the best we have ever had!
Would wait until price drops or buy other makes like GTECH etc.

Cordless are worth considering if you have somewhere you can leave it on charge all the time.

I have a Dyson V8, I am not a "clean and tidy" freak but I do love it and it makes life so much easier. I have used friends G-Tech when looking after their cats and find the Dyson much better.

After you use any cordless vac's you hang them up in their holder and they recharge to 100% you need somewhere to hang on wall and a socket available usually underneath. When they are back at 100% they stop charging.

So that's settled then use the gift money.

And you need a free socket and permanent place to hang your vacuum cleaner. Gone are the days of stuffing it in the cupboard under the stairs. Plus rechargeable batteries don't last (anything like) forever. Until battery technology improves and they become cheaper, I won't be investing in one.
