In "Edit Profile" you are not allowed to save changes if you have a hyphen in your username
pate-ci0 said:Here's an interesting one; I untick Show Skimlinks, click Save and get an error message Usernames must be 3-20 characters and consist of letters, numbers, and underscores. My username has a dash in it (allowed in previous forum software), however I cannot edit it since it is greyed out and therefore cannot modify the profile. Hmmm...

I am trying to update my user profile, e.g. by unticking "Display Skimlinks? " but I cannot save the setting as it then produces the error message:
Usernames must be 3-20 characters and consist of letters, numbers, and underscores.
I cannot change my user name to comply with the new forum rules as that is greyed out.
WhyNot?

This was reported two weeks ago: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6103303
It is probably the "?" in your username causing the problem.
There is no evidence that the MSE team have seen the problem nor intend to do anything about it.3 -
Thanks @One-Eye . I did a quick search before posting but could not see this problem previously reported anywhere. I obviously missed your earlier thread in my search, sorry. But it looks the same issue; so glad I'm not alone with this problem.
I do see that the MSE Board Guide has thanked your earlier thread, so hopefully it may be on the MSE radar. If not, perhaps this new thread will put it firmly on their 'to do' list now

Help!
Looks like it doesn't like the full stops in my user name.
Another long standing forum user now being forced to use skim-links against my wish.
Has you, or any others, managed to get this resolved yet?

Has you, or any others, managed to get this resolved yet?My 'use skim-links' box remains unticked - just checked.IIRC, it took a few goes to get it to remain like that, but 🤞

The problem being reported (I think) is that these users cannot make ANY changes to their accounts ... because the forum won't let them save any changes due to their usernames.0

So is it a bug that is awaiting a fix or can we just not change our usernames?0
