Rebedding roof verge

Some chunks of mortar have fallen out of my roof's verge. About a metre altogether. The house is under ten years old, but NHBC won't cover the cost because they say it'll be under their minimum of about £1600 to repair, so I am currently in the process of trying to figure out how to get it fixed out of my own pocket.
The NHBC say that it can be done with a cherry picker. They also say I only need to repair the broken bits, rather than replace the whole lot. Can you just rebed the tiles in the areas where mortar has come away, or should you have the whole gable end redone?
I've had two quotes to strip back and rebed the whole gable end and smaller gable at the back, which is what the roofers recommended doing. Including scaffolding these are £1500 and £2200.
Would just rebedding the missing bits be much less? Or should we be doing the whole lot?

Rebedding roof verge usually means the ridge tiles are loose. Or is it mortar from the sides?
If under the ridge, I would get the lot done and possible go for the newer method where they are dry clamped in place?

Thank you.
It's the mortar from the sides. I don't know if the tiles are loose. None have come down. A good chunk of mortar has come down, though. A local handyman has offered to just fill it in for me for £100, but that won't involve taking back the tile and rebedding. Could be a temporary fix, though??

Looked at the link: for me it's the verge, not the ridge. It's the bit where the top of the wall meets the roof along the gable end.0
