hi,
i would be extremely grateful if someone could help me and advise what I should be claiming. Iv been receiving income support, child tax credit and carers allowance plus dla low mobility mid care for my son for the past 4 years. Iv been offered a job starting next week on a 16 hour contract, could someone please advise me on what I should be claiming and when I claim? Is it universal credit or working tax credit? Do I make the changes now or the day I start my new job?
Many thanks in advance as it’s causing me stress

Because you get Child Tax Credits you will be able to add Working Tax Credits if you wish. Contact HMRC to do this. You must report the change within one month of it occurring.

In order to report the work there may be details you need which you will not have until you have started. Nonetheless it may be worth contacting HMRC in advance so that you are clear what information you will need to provide.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1 -

You will need to keep Income Support informed about changes and also your local authority if you are claiming Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Reduction.
If you will be earning more than £123/week you will no longer be entitled to Carer’s Allowance and will need to inform them also. If the CA stops you must tell Tax Credits about this too.
if you have access to a local advice agency it may be worth asking if they can do a benefits check to confirm whether you will be better off staying on Tax Credits or claiming Universal Credit instead.
