The LNB I have runs both the Q box downstairs and an old style HD Sky box upstairs. So it is possible depending on what LNB it is when the engineer fitted the Q box.

Why would there be? Freesat does not have Sky Q functionality..
Just thought that many people have been seduced into upgrading to Q and then decide its too expensive, HAVE to send the box back - so there is a growing gap in the market for a Freesat box that can use the Q LNB ?
Going back to an 'old' LNB would cost <£20, plus fitting.

What is that? Can you not just use a standard Freesat box with the dish that's there already?
Freesat uses the same LNB (the bit in the middle of the dish) as Sky (SD, + and HD, +). When Sky Q came along, Sky brought out a new LNB, and as of right now, the only device that uses that, is a Sky Q box. Everything else uses, let's call it, a Sky HD LNB.

This is called a hybrid LNB, and you usually have to specially request it.

I didnt request mine specifically when I had the Q box fitted,  all I mentioned to the engineer was will I still be able to run the Sky HD box in the bedroom which we use for the free channels, and he said yeah no problem. Which sure enough I have had no problem.

I'll count that under 'you usually have to specially request it'. You mentioning it was enough to trigger the engineer to fit the hybrid. To be safe, I'd say people should mention it when arranging installation.
