Booking.com property took prepayment on no prepayment booking

So, I made a booking in October on booking.com for our July holiday. It was a no prepayment booking, however there is a cancellation fee. That was ok. Last week while trying to get organising I changed the card on the booking to a TransferWise card in euro to avoid fees. As it was a pay at property booking I didn't think there would be any issue. The property then proceeded to try and take half the balance of the card out which was declined as I hadn't the money transferred to it yet. I messaged them to ask what was going on and explained regarding the card chsnge they referred me back to booking for info.
I then checked my account and saw that they had withdrawn the amount from the card I had originally booked with.
I originally thought that this was a pre authorization and was not too concerned, however, the amount was then debited fully.
I contacted booking and they showed me the prepayment policy which had been changed to half now and half a week before stay, which was not what I agreed to. I sent original emails and screenshots which said no prepayment would be taken.
Booking have said that they have given property until Friday to return my money or they would.
I am so angry that I asked if the property would waive cancellation fee and I could book somewhere else. Booking said it was the property's first mistake in 2 years and tried to make little of it. The hotel then refused to waive cancellation fees which are alot. The property have not explained anything or apologised and I think it is mean that they won't waive fees for a stay in July when they have effectively stolen from me. I am now upset that I will have to stay there with bad feeling, I am anxious and worried about going now.
Anyone have any advice???
