Ryanair Value and Regular fare

Options
Further to MSE’s recent post about this I checked the ticket prices having already booked Regular seats to Berlin,  in order to choose a seat and take on two bags as a priority customer.
After reading the article I looked into booking as a Value fare and adding the seat and luggage as extras and discovered it was £17 cheaper. Not a fortune but I feel that I have been mis-sold. The Regular fare is clearly marketed as including the most popular extras and therefore with the implication that it is the most economical option. This is not the case.
It is like Boots offering a meal deal for £3, when in fact buying the items individually would amount to £2.50.
Is it something that contravenes trade descriptions? Any comments please? No joy from Ryanair online complaints but I am telephoning them tomorrow.

I doubt it is like that. It is more like buying a meal deal when you don;t want a bag of crisps and paying 25p extra than prurchasing a sarnie and drink on it's own. (which yes in the meal deal circumstances is unlikely and as such meal deals should be banned as they promote waste, but that is another thing).

They nowhere said it was the best vaue unkless you wanted the options. They have (legally) done nothing wrong.
  • Sometimes it's more expensive,  sometimes its cheaper,  even when you book the cheapest seats. Customers job to compare prices. I can see no implication.  The airline has done nothing wrong.
  • This is nothing new and has been available on Ryanair's website for about a year. Those who book through Ryanair on a regular basis will be well aware of the arrangement.
All Martin Lewis has done is probably ensured that Ryanair will block the 'loophole' and so deny the arrangement to anyone in the future.
  • That's not the implication I'd take from the 'package' offering extras - I'd take it at face value, that it's the most popular option, not the best value.

Unfortunately it's down to you, the consumer, to check pricing for the various options.
  • When you click on Regular, you also add Fast Track which most people do not want/need.

So, if you just want to add a small suitcase to your big handbag, but do not want/need to choose a seat, click on Value and add your extra small suitcase when prompted.

Regarding not seating together, I have never witnessed anyone refusing to change seat to allow a family to seat together. In the case of couples, we usually joke that's it's a welcome 2/3 hours without the other half!

On the other hand, choosing your seat allows you to check in well in advance, useful if you haven't got a smartphone and you do not have a computer and a printer when away.
