Don't discard its usefulness outright - it eliminates the need for the hideous number-generating pad. That's a huge improvement IMO.

My partner and I also had £10 credited to both our HSBC accounts yesterday (18th).
We only had to install the app once, accessing both accounts through the same device.  The app has now been uninstalled as the PC-based service through a browser is, for our purposes, easier to use.

I too prefer to use a browser but I find the fast balance feature (no need to log-in) very convenient.

I'm not a fan of number pads either, but I just clicked on the hsbc app. It took 13 seconds till the hsbc logo went away and I got asked for my fingerprint. Then got to click cancel as I don't want to login  then click generate code, wait more time for it to prompt me for my finger again...
It's just too slow for some reason. Within ten seconds I can open Nationwide and login with my finger.
    Monzo takes like 3s.
Natwest whilst entering a pin manually takes <10s.
